A Dust-up in Supporter Land

Our fellow blogger at the excellently titled “Unsexy Hexy” posted an excellent post about his experience at the SLC qualifier.  He had some negative things to say, specifically the support from some in the stands, led by people wearing Salt City United supporter group shirts.  He had utterly justified complaints, namely the racist, homophobic chants (“puto”) they had, as well as the ubiquitous “you suck asshole” during every goal kick.

And of course a couple people on the internet took offense to this, and he felt a need to write an apology and explanation of sorts.

I gotta say Kevin, thank you.  We need to stand up to homophobic and racist chanting in soccer.  It’s not “bitching and moaning” as some of the comments suggested, it’s the right thing to do.  I think Kevin’s five part guidelines for soccer supporting makes perfect sense.    And finally, those people commenting on his blog, follow the fifth guideline and “have some class”.
